Gulf Fritillary, Agraulis vanillae
The Gulf Fritillary butterfly is commonly found across the southern United States. This butterfly moves northward in the spring and migrates further south during the late summer/early fall. Gulf Fritillaries spend their winters in frost-free areas. Adults lay their eggs on passionflower vines and consequently have been nicknamed the “passion butterfly.” Caterpillars are bright orange with many black spines. Butterflies are bright orange with three white dots on each forewing.
